Today we went to a friends birthday party. Clark had so much fun swimming with the kids and especially loved going down the slide! We promised him this summer that if he learned how to swim we would buy him a pillow pet (something he has been begging for every time the commercial comes on). Last week he actually was starting to swim to me all on his own. We were so excited we headed straight to the mall kiosk as soon as Rob walked in the door from work. I guess the reward was given a little prematurely, because the next day he refused to swim to me...he has lost his motivation. He feels like a superhero with that scooby doo vest...he does things he normally wouldn't with it on, ie jumping off a tall diving board, and going down a water slide before anyone without batting an eye.
As usual, Kurt was a trooper and enjoyed the water, even when he got a cup of water in the face during a pool water fight. Nap time hit and then I laid him in his car seat and he was out surrounded by cold wet napkins to keep him cool in the shade. Besides his little nap, I was holding him, so the only pictures I could take of my little cupcake were ones when I held the camera out at arms length and guessed when he was in focus.
Taking the boys swimming is a lot of work...you've got to pack towels, sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, swim diapers, flotation devices, water bottles, & dry clothes. Then actually going swimming is work as well...holding a spastic, splashing, squishy baby while trying to keep your eye on a bobbing 3 year old in a scooby doo vest that is going from pool to slide to jumping in from the side and then back down the slide, etc. BUT, everyone always has a good time and it is always worth it.
